Douglas & Gordon scoops Supreme Award

Douglas & Gordon has been named best UK estate agent at The Negotiator Awards 2009.

The West London firm won the newly-created Supreme Negotiator Award at the agency event of the year last night [November 11], which was supported by Fully Furnished, LSLi, Richards Gray, Eurolink Software and Property Search Group, with The Digital Property Group as headline sponsor for the second consecutive year.

Douglas & Gordon beat rivals Marsh & Parsons and Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward who came second and third respectively. Douglas & Gordon also beat Connells, Chesterton Humberts, Greene & Co, Knight Frank, Newmans, Savills and Strutt & Parker.

The Supreme Negotiator Award contenders were voted by The Negotiator Awards Academy, which comprises 50 of the UK residential agency market’s top practitioners. Each was asked to rank their three best-performing UK agents, based on a range of criteria in which they believe the firms have excelled over the last 12 months. These included good business performance. excellent leadership, adaptability to the current market and innovation.

Firms were awarded points for each vote, depending on whether it was a first, second or third recommendation, and these scores have determined their position in the league table for the newly-created category, The Supreme Negotiator Award.

Ivor Dickinson (pictured, second from left) managing director of Douglas & Gordon, says: "It means a huge amount because it's acknowledgement of 23 years' work at the firm, and because it's the only award out of all the award ceremonies conducted in the estate agency business that you don't enter yourself for."

He adds: "Another reason it means so much is that the service standards of certain agents, particularly in London, are so high that to be considered the best by our peers is a massive compliment."

More than 430 guests gathered in the glamorous ballroom at London’s prestigious Hilton Hotel on Park Lane to celebrate the excellence of each of the 16 award winners. In addition, The Negotiator presented a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Bill McClintock for his services to estate agency, particularly for his instrumental role at The Property Ombudsman Service.

And, as if a champagne reception, sumptuous meal and flowing wine weren't enough, guests were then entertained by magician and comedian Paul Zenon and a charity casino. More than £3,000 was raised for Shelter.
