Oldham and Rotherham top Registry price index
Property in Oldham and Rotherham experienced the highest monthly price increases across the country in January, according to the latest Land Registry index.
Average property prices in the Lancashire and Yorkshire towns increased by 1.7% to £94,778 and £111,524 respectively.
Within London, property in Kensington and Chelsea experienced the highest price increase, up 2.5% to £821,496. The borough also experienced the highest annual price increase of 11.2%.
Meanwhile, sales volumes increased to 57,722 between August and November 2009, up 36% on the 42,523 recorded in the same period in 2008.
The £2m-plus price band experienced the greatest increase in transaction volumes, up 131% year-on-year in November, while the number of sales of properties priced between £50,001 and £100,000 experienced the smallest increase, up 16% to 7,209 in the same period.
