Conveyancing firm has fee ad banned

The Advertising Standards Authority has prohibited yourconveyancingservices.com from using an advert, which claimed to offer a £99 fee service.

The ASA investigation was in response to a complaint from Barnetts Solicitors, which challenged the validity of the claim, alleging that it was misleading because of its belief that there were other compulsory charges that were charged in addition to the £99 fee.

Yourconveyancingservices said the claim related to the profit cost fees charged by the conveyancers in relation to the transaction, which were £99 plus VAT per transaction.

But the ASA upheld the complaint, concluding that prices quoted in marketing communications addressed to the public should include VAT and other, non-optional taxes and duties imposed on all buyers.
