Pryor launches property portal fee challenge
Property pundit Henry Pryor has launched a campaign to encourage smaller estate agents to challenge portal membership fees.
Pryor pledges to unite agents interested in joining the campaign into a group, which he hopes will be able to use its bargaining powers to negotiate discounts similar to those being offered by the portals to national chains.
But he insists that the objective of the campaign is not to fight portals, but rather to remind agents that they cannot afford to pay the level of rates being asked of them in the current market.
He says: “Traditionally agents have negotiated their advertising contracts individually, but most understand that the discounted rates that the bigger firms have are not a result of better negotiation but because they have the power of bulk-buying.
“Smaller firms need the same benefits that the larger chains have - they can no longer rely on the market to carry them.”
Pryor claims that he has already attracted support from firms with more than 400 offices between them.
Interested agents can register their support of the campaign at www.eabg.co.uk.
