New lettings members to pay almost third more at Rightmove
Rightmove has hiked fees for new lettings members by nearly a third.
Rates for a new lettings-only joiner have been increased to £195 per month per office as of this month, up from £150 last year.
Over 1000 new lettings agents have joined the UK’s leading property portal over the last 12 months, leading Rightmove to claim it now has 80% of the market on its site.
Commercial director Miles Shipside (pictured) said that existing customers will continue to get substantial loyalty discounts.
“We haven’t got customers over a barrel; we have created the biggest marketplace for lettings. It is very tough for agents but frankly most will cut back on advertising in the papers.
“The key for them is selling more properties at levels buyers can afford. Paying between £40 and £50 per week to us is not the issue.”
One large Rightmove client confirmed that the portals prices were nothing compared with those of newspaper advertising.
“The problem is that we have to advertise in both at the moment. Rightmove is a good medium and it holds the majority of cards.
“It’s a brave agent who doesn’t use it outside the South East. However there are other portals being developed, so Rightmove needs to make hay while the sun shines.”
