Brighton agents top Land Registry’s August data
Sales in Brighton are booming, according to the latest data from the Land Registry.
Analysis of the data available for August from the Registry last week and compiled by industry pundit Henry Pryor, reveals that agents in three Brighton postcodes – BN1, 2 and 3 – completed 123 sales, compared with just 30 in Battersea and 31 in Wimbledon.
Brighton agents have registered 500 properties in the last two weeks alone.
Pryor’s analysis reveals that there were 17,871 sales in August, down 55% year-on-year.
The figures coincide with the publication of Nationwide’s House Price Index for September, which reveals that the average UK property price fell 1.7% to £161,797, compared with £164,654 in August. This represents a 12.4% decline year-on-year.
Fionnuala Earley, Nationwide’s chief economist, says: House prices have now fallen for 11 consecutive months, but the monthly rate of fall has been almost unchanged in the last three months.
“The less volatile three-month–on-three-month series has also barely changed for the last three months, after accelerating in the first half of the year. This may suggest the beginning of some stabilisation in the pace of house price falls.”
